The Wild(Waste) House - Univeristy of Brighton

Project Link to the Waste/Wild House:

The Installation Site for the Bug Hotels:

'The world's first domestic dwelling with full building approval and permission made almost entirely from the stuff other people throw away. We engaged with this pioneering and award winning building through the steering group and design development process. The WasteHouse project was led by Architect Duncan Baker-Brown, waste guru and Freegle founder Cat Fletcher and we collaborated on the creation of a community engagement and material reuse project - right up our street!'

Situated behind the studios at the City Campus, The Wild House is fronted by a large garden plot that grows a variety of flowers and plants for creating natural dyes and engaging in sustainable crafting.

This garden provides an essential food source for the insects that live in our Bug Hotels, while the house itself is an ideal location to install, observe, and maintain these crucial bug habitats.
