Each Bug Hotel has our QR code imbedded into the design to ensure that everyone has access to all of our responsible husbandry information.
Multiple types of hotel designs are available to ensure there is an ideal build for all the beneficial insects and pollinators that we aim to invite into our gardens.
Weatherproof Roof: Ensure the hotel has a sturdy roof to keep it dry and prevent rot, mold, or fungus growth.
Closed Backing: A solid back provides extra protection, offering insects a safer, more sheltered space.
Breathable Materials: Use only permeable materials, avoiding non-breathable options like glass or plastic, which trap moisture and can harm insects.
Smooth, Safe Openings: Make sure any surfaces are not too rough to protect delicate insect wings from damage.
When designing your hotel, consider the types of guests you aim to attract. Solitary bees, the hardworking pollinators of the insect world, prefer to check in alone, nesting in their own tubes. Centipedes, spiders, woodlice, beetles love damp bark and detritus, while hoverflies and ladybugs love dry grasses and bundles of twigs. Lacewings, the pest control masters of the garden, prefer materials like rolled cardboard or straw.

Our bug hotels are simple to recreate, making it easy to build your own mini-metropolis of habitats!
If you're new to bug hotel construction, we recommend starting with just one or two to learn the basics. Once you’re confident, you can explore endless possibilities—creating clusters of bungalows, stacked bricks, or cozy lodges arranged in creative displays or scattered throughout the garden to attract diverse tenants.
Remember, each habitat requires care and attention.
A well-maintained bug hotel is a healthy one, so be prepared to support every space you build.
