Frequently Asked Questions

The Bug Hotel Rewilding Project is an educational initiative aimed at teaching people about responsible husbandry and maintenance of insect homes to support local biodiversity of beneficial bugs & pollinators.

Rewilding is intended to restore lost and damaged ecosystems that once provided homes for wildlife, including the crucial pollinators and beneficial bugs.

Insects are the "concierges" of the plant world, ensuring the fertilization of flowers, and keeping our gardens, crops, and wild flora thriving. However, due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change, these valued guests have been in steep decline.

Rewilding efforts, which focus on reconnecting fragmented habitats and restoring natural landscapes, can help reverse this trend. Through rewilding landscapes we aim to create the perfect suites for pollinators to find food, shelter, and nesting sites.

Rewilding also opens the doors to increased biodiversity, supporting not only pollinators but other helpful insects that can manage the hotel by controlling pests and improve soil health in our gardens.

By allowing nature to recover and welcoming these vital species into their natural habitats, we are strengthening ecosystem resilience, and ensuring a sustainable future for both the environment and agriculture, one small Bug Hotel at a time!

All of our base bug hotels are built from Jesmonite, the perfect foundation to construct a cozy retreat for your tiny tenants.

This eco-neutral, non-toxic material is breathable, allowing fresh air to flow while keeping moisture at bay—no one wants to stay in a damp room! Jesmonite is not only durable, but it's also easy for makers to work with, making it a top choice for constructing these insect havens.

While our bug hotels are designed to be sturdy, they are not meant to last forever. A seasonal deep clean of the entire structure and a rebuild every few years ensures healthy hotels, keeping your tiny tenants buzzing with joy and ready to call your garden home.

We offer three base models of bug hotels, each designed to house different types of beneficial insects. Think of these as starting points—your hotel can be fully customized!

Explore our site to discover ways to personalize and optimize each model with construction techniques and enhancements using natural materials.

A diverse range of fascinating insects could make themselves at home in your bug hotel! For example, the UK is home to hundreds of species of solitary bees, each with its own preferences for nesting.

The insects that check in will depend on various factors, including the type of hotel you create, its location, the materials you use, and even the season. Whether you're welcoming beneficial bees, beetles, ladybirds, or other tiny tenants, each guest plays a unique role in your garden's ecosystem.

To help you identify and learn more, visit our "Bug Tenants" page. There, you'll find valuable tips on how to recognize and support the diverse array of insects that may check into your bug hotel.

Just like people, bugs love a free room upgrade!

You can upgrade your hotel by adding many natural materials that enhance the habitat. Check out our 'Upgrades & Improvements' page to learn all about how to optimize your tiny tenants stay.
