The Lowdown On Ladybugs

Roll out the red carpet for Ladybugs

These charming beetles are the pest control pros your garden needs, devouring aphids and other harmful insects faster than room service delivers dinner.

A single ladybug can feast on thousands of aphids in its lifetime, making them the ultimate all-inclusive exterminators. While they’re not as busy as bees, ladybugs also double as pollinators, helping your flowers bloom as they search for tasty snacks.

To keep these VIPs booking return stays, plant pollen-packed attractions like marigolds, sweet alyssum, and fennel—it’s like offering a five-star buffet!

When winter rolls around, ladybugs love a cozy suite upgrade in warm shelters like piles of leaves and garden debris packed into a lodge. Ladybugs are as stylish as they are hardworking. Sadly, their numbers are declining, but by offering them a safe, flower-filled retreat, you’ll keep your bug hotel buzzing and your garden thriving.

Ladybugs: Aphid All-Stars

Ladybugs are five-star guests and pest control pros! Both the adults and their spiky-looking larvae are all about munching on aphids, scale insects, and mites. A single ladybug can eat thousands of aphids in its lifetime—that’s a lot of pest problems solved!

To keep ladybugs comfy, set up a “ground floor” for them. They love spots with mulch, leaves, or woodchips that stay a little misty. You can even sprinkle some special ladybug pheromone (available online) to make your garden the top-rated ladybug resort. Want to make it extra fancy? Place their shelter near aphid-prone plants like roses or veggies so they can snack without going far.
